VISUAL: 30 SECONDS TO MARS – UP IN THE AIR

This is definitely a good way to start the weekend. If you listen to 30 Seconds to Mars, you surely must know about their unique music videos and the kind of experience they provide for the viewers (if not, see Hurricane). With the upcoming release of their new album entitled “Love, Lust, Faith + Dreams”, the band has just released the official music video for their first single “Up in the Air”. It was directed by Bartholomew Cubbins aka Jared Leto and it is undoubtedly the type of artistic expression that only Jared can picture for a music video. So, embrace the weirdness.

I have already seen the sneak peaks so I was aware of the amount of elements, concepts and people involved in this creative process. And I must admit the list is impressive: Dita von Teese , the American gymnasts Jordyn Wieber & McKayla Maroney, artist Damien Hirst‘s work which is also featured on the official album cover, models Ashley Smith and Anastasia Krivosheeva, animals and many more. Unlike their previous videos, this one explores an entirely different territory, lighter and more positive, as the rhythm of the song.

Jarle Berhoft: The Visual Identity

Jarle Berhoft, the Norwegian multi-instrumentalist, whose single  “C’mon Talk” has thrilled millions of people, is one of the most talented and promising European artists. Not only do I like his refreshing retro-soul music and distinguishable voice, but also the aesthetics behind his image, an image that was developed by Anti and GrandPeople with the release of his album in 2011. They were responsible for Bernhoft’s new visual image including styling, art direction and design.

“The main imagery was developed based on the title “Solidarity breaks”, a title talking about the constant internal struggle in the ego between selfish interests and those of the people around you. A conflict of interest which at times leaves you torn / divided. Equally the logo is separated into two opposing parts, at times appearing as a whole, at other as two individual parts.”
