I have been willing to write about fringe dresses ever since the SS2013 collections were presented back in September. But for some unknown reason I have postponed it a lot. The fringe dress has been around for a long time, at least since the Roaring Twenties representing the Jazz Era. I know that sometimes the film industry has a consistent power of influence and manages to dictate a fashion trend (see Black Swan), so I am inclined to believe that this year will be sprinkled with elements of the 20s because of the upcoming release of The Great Gatsby. It is very easy to fall in love with the captivating image and aesthetic of the 20s: the fringe swinging back and forth, the loud music, the exaggerate make-up, the beaded dresses, the headbands, the fun, the unconditional sensation of freedom while dancing the night away, smoking and driving automobiles.

Whether taking a modern approach of the flapper dress or just reinterpreting the use of fringe, Nina Ricci, Bottega Veneta, Rodarte, Salvatore Ferragamo brought it back in the spotlight for their 2013 collections.
