The couture fashion week is here which only means that we get the chance to indulge ourselves with some breath-taking looks. I’m kicking off a series of posts dedicated to these collections starting with yesterday’s Dior runway presentation.
I have to admit that Dior has stopped being one of my favorite couture brands a while ago, perhaps because of the unflattering designs that seem quite repetitive or the red-carpet looks provided for the likes of Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence that fail to excite me. But, of course, that doesn’t stop me from checking out every new collection.
This Fall 2014 collection is a melange of looks, from elegant gowns to fur coats, modern short dresses and minimalist suits. What I really liked were the minimalist chic coats sweeping to the ground, the vivid accents of colors such as bright red and navy blue that lit up the understated black elegance and the utter comfort that exuded from these looks. It’s like Raf Simons found the perfect combination of couture and modern functionality! (more…)
Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé
I was expecting to see Cate Blanchett dazzling on the red carpet regardless of her choice in the dress. And of course she did not disappoint. It’s true that after seeing her latest appearances, I thought that she would go for a feminine, ethereal or minimalist look. But perhaps that’s why the excitement tripled when she took over the red carpet in this breath-taking Armani Privé gown. It was quite unexpected and I was pleasantly surprised. Chopard earring, a retro hairstyle and flawless makeup completed the look. She truly knows how to make a lace gown work and not feel overwhelmed by it.
The Spring 2014 Collections provide an interesting range of trends, but if there is one that always makes the list is definitely the floral pattern. And how can it not be when it has some much to offer in a summery collection? Whether using printed fabrics or delicate floral appliques, the designers have incorporated at least one floral piece into their collection. Pure femininity and elegance are the exponents of the next summer.
I wish you all a joyful new year filled with colorful moments and happiness!
Hello everybody! I hope you all had a magic Christmas! Before putting an end to this year, it’s time to recap some of the most thrilling red-carpet appearances of 2013. Although I haven’t wrote about many of them as I gave up covering events, I have always kept an eye on the dresses these ladies have worn thorughout the year.
The most beloved designers were Elie Saab and Christian Dior. If I were to chose between them I’d go with Elie Saab mostly because of consistency. Although Dior has provided some beautiful gowns for the red carpet, I cannot get over the downturn it made in the last months. And this is how I get to the most disappointing brands lead also by Dior. The latest collections have not fulfilled my expectations and have sadly managed to transform Marion Cotillard from a red-carpet diva into a mediocre, if not disastrous, appearance.
Apart from the award ceremonies, a lot of beautiful gowns were delivered during promotional tours. I have included in this top some photocalls and TV shows as well. Enjoy!
