The couture fashion week is here which only means that we get the chance to indulge ourselves with some breath-taking looks. I’m kicking off a series of posts dedicated to these collections starting with yesterday’s Dior runway presentation.
I have to admit that Dior has stopped being one of my favorite couture brands a while ago, perhaps because of the unflattering designs that seem quite repetitive or the red-carpet looks provided for the likes of Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence that fail to excite me. But, of course, that doesn’t stop me from checking out every new collection.
This Fall 2014 collection is a melange of looks, from elegant gowns to fur coats, modern short dresses and minimalist suits. What I really liked were the minimalist chic coats sweeping to the ground, the vivid accents of colors such as bright red and navy blue that lit up the understated black elegance and the utter comfort that exuded from these looks. It’s like Raf Simons found the perfect combination of couture and modern functionality! (more…)
Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli are an unbeatable duo! The talented designers manage to make me fall in love with this house a little bit more with every fashion show they put on. After being completely and irremediably in love with last year’s fall collection inspired by the beautiful Dutch paintings, I can’t stop feeling the same about the new fall 2014 one. The sophisticated tulle and lace dresses were embroidered with floral motifs and see-through fabrics were decorated with little birds and butterflies. As I mentioned before, the show did not miss the minimalism. Simple, yet utterly feminine dresses completed the collection. (more…)
Dear stylists, please let us see more of Mr. Yudashkin on the red carpet!
After taking my breath away with an utterly feminine SS2014 collection, Valentin Yudashkin easily made it to the top of my list of favorite designers.
Dropping out the full minimalist style for a more thorough sophistication, the Russian designer opted for embellished gowns and see-through fabrics. The collection exuded black elegance through all its pores, so, here and there, metallic accents and sheer white designs enlivened the runway. (more…)
With all the hype surrounding the Oscars, I forgot about Elie Saab presenting the new RTW collection. But it’s time to catch up! For the new season, the Lebanese designer chose a darker palette of colors just right for fall: red burgundy dresses, silk jumpsuits, ombre gowns, dark teal blue velvety fabrics and full black sequined gowns built the collection.
I picked my favorite looks, and although the awards season is over, I hope we’ll get to see some of these outfits on the red carpet, at movie premieres, photocalls or dinner events. (more…)
