This is it! The 2013 Academy Awards took place last night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. As expected, there were a lot of actresses who walked the red carpet. Among my favorites was probably Naomi Watts in Giorgio Armani, who easily managed to pull off that look. I also liked Alicia Vikander & Sandra Bullock, both in Elie Saab. Jessica Chastain wore a simple yet very classy and sophisticated design by Armani Privé. I would also add on this list Charlize Theron‘s Dior gown and Anne Hathaway‘s Prada dress. See all the looks below:
This year’s Academy Awards are less than a month away! The nominations luncheon was held at the Beverly Hills hotel last night and many of the nominees attended the event. Amy Adams stepped out in a J. Mendel spring 2013 floral dress, while Jessica Chastain opted for an Erdem dress also with purple floral details. Naomi Watts wore an elegant Valentino black dress.
Jennifer Lawrence opted for a minimalistic look: a Chloe sheer white dress and Casadei black pumps. Anne Hatheway donned a LBD by The Row, while Sally Field who’s nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, wore an Alberta Ferretti dress. To get straight to the point, my favorites of the night were Marion Cotillard and Naomi Watts. They are the first that come to my mind when I think about last night’s red carpet appearances. Naomi Watts looked stunning in a white Marchesa strapless gown. The fact that she kept the styling simple, made it look classic and sophisticated. Marion Cotillard wore Christian Dior as usual. The design of the dress really worked out for her. I like it and I also like the fact that, despite wearing the same brand over and over again, Marion always manages to show us a new approach of the look. Julianne Moore, Amanda Seyfried and Kerry Washington looked very elegant as well. I’d also add Nina Dobrev and Jennifer Garner on this list. Jennifer, who doesn’t take risks when it comes to choosing the dress for the red carpet but neither does she make big mistakes, opted for a sheer gold Oscar de la Renta dress.
Jessica Chastain was another pleasant appearance on the red carpet. Her Alexander McQueen dress is definitely an improvement from what she has worn this awards season. Her dresses have been so lackluster, I believe she deserves to make a great comeback.
Sometimes the dresses, as presented on the runway, don’t look so good on the red carpet. For example, as much as I love Giambattisa Valli, Anne Hathway’s look did not impress me. The most disappointing was undoubtedly Jennifer Lawrence. The design looked completely wrong…it just looked like a cloth wrapped around her body. Just because it’s tagged Dior doesn’t mean it is good.
Nicole Kidman looked stunning at the 2013 G’Day USA Gala! She wore a gorgeous Elie Saab Couture dress and Bottega Veneta high heels. Naomi Watts chooses simple designs most of the time and this event wasn’t an exception. She wore a Gucci baby pink gown and completed the look with a Salvatore Ferragamo gold clutch. Bella Heathcote looked very elegant in Dolce&Gabbana. I surely can’t say the same thing about Rose Byrne...She wore Diane von Furstenberg top and pants, but the outfit is not working for me. Besides, when it comes to prints it’s a thin line between looking nice and looking as if you just got out of the bed in your pijamas….(pictures via: zimbio.com/credit Getty)
