The award shows keep coming this weekend as we are approaching the very much awaited Academy Awards! Last night, it was time for the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards and many household names of the film industry attended the event. For me, best dressed were without a doubt Chinese actresses, Ni Ni, and Kerry Washington, both in Giambattista Valli outfits. Check out more outfits below:
To get straight to the point, my favorites of the night were Marion Cotillard and Naomi Watts. They are the first that come to my mind when I think about last night’s red carpet appearances. Naomi Watts looked stunning in a white Marchesa strapless gown. The fact that she kept the styling simple, made it look classic and sophisticated. Marion Cotillard wore Christian Dior as usual. The design of the dress really worked out for her. I like it and I also like the fact that, despite wearing the same brand over and over again, Marion always manages to show us a new approach of the look. Julianne Moore, Amanda Seyfried and Kerry Washington looked very elegant as well. I’d also add Nina Dobrev and Jennifer Garner on this list. Jennifer, who doesn’t take risks when it comes to choosing the dress for the red carpet but neither does she make big mistakes, opted for a sheer gold Oscar de la Renta dress.
Jessica Chastain was another pleasant appearance on the red carpet. Her Alexander McQueen dress is definitely an improvement from what she has worn this awards season. Her dresses have been so lackluster, I believe she deserves to make a great comeback.
Sometimes the dresses, as presented on the runway, don’t look so good on the red carpet. For example, as much as I love Giambattisa Valli, Anne Hathway’s look did not impress me. The most disappointing was undoubtedly Jennifer Lawrence. The design looked completely wrong…it just looked like a cloth wrapped around her body. Just because it’s tagged Dior doesn’t mean it is good.
Kate Beckinsale wore a simple, yet very elegant, Gucci spring 2013 gown while Berenice Marlohe dazzled in a bold Monique Lhuillier see-thorugh dress. Vanessa Hudgens donned a Jenny Packham ensemble with a daring deep V neck. Jaime King opted for a sheer white Emilio Pucci dress.
Selena Gomez wore an Atelier Versace dress, while Jessica Alba opted for a sheer Louis Vuitton spring 2013 black and white look. Freida Pinto went with Antonio Berardi for this party and Sarah Hyland opted for a very girly outfit, a Pavoni dress.
Emma Roberts wore a Maria Lucia Hohan dress, Malin Ackerman opted for an Alberta Ferretti spring 2013 gown while Nina Dobrev chose one of my favorite dresses from the Oscar de la Renta spring 2013 collection. Kelly Osbourne wore Zac Posen.(pictures via zimbio.com)
You know it’s the awards season, when there is literally an event every day. People’s Choice Awards were followed by last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards where the red carpet appearances improved pleasantly from Wednesday’s show. Therefore, I enjoyed it more. Without a doubt, Emmy Rossum’s Carolina Herrera dark blue dress, Marion Cotillard’s Zuhair Murad floral ensemble and Jaime King’s Jason Wu black gown are my favorite outfits. I will add Emily Blunt’s look on my list as well, not particularly because of her Miu Miu dress, but because of her flawless retro hairstyle. What delighted me however was Marion’s choice to wear something else than her usual Dior dresses. Not that I mind them of crouse, but it’s nice to see something fresh in her wardrobe. (more…)
The event gathered a lot of household names from the film industry. From start I will say that a lot of them wore Calvin Klein ensembles since the event was sponsored by the American brand. Emma Watson, for example, chose a spring 2013 dress. Sarah Jessica Parker opted for an outfit from the same collection. Cate Blanchett wore a Proenza Schouler dress. Uma Thurman wore Calvin Klein as well.
Emma Stone chose a Valentino Resort 2013 dress. Kristen Wiig, Jaime King and Rashida Jones all opted from Calvin Klein dresses. Jaime also donned a Calvin Klein coat.
Elle Fanning wore a Calvin Klein dress. Nina Dobrev opted for a Vera Wang lace dress, while Lea Michele wore a Zimmerman ensemble. Krysten Ritter donned a Ramona Keveza dress.
“Mad Men” actress, Kiernan Shipka, wore a lovely Moschino outfit. Lake Bell opted for an Etro printed dress while Julianne Hough went with Calvin Klein . Anna Kendrick wore Badgley Mischka.(pictures via: zimbio.com)
