I have been willing to write about fringe dresses ever since the SS2013 collections were presented back in September. But for some unknown reason I have postponed it a lot. The fringe dress has been around for a long time, at least since the Roaring Twenties representing the Jazz Era. I know that sometimes the film industry has a consistent power of influence and manages to dictate a fashion trend (see Black Swan), so I am inclined to believe that this year will be sprinkled with elements of the 20s because of the upcoming release of The Great Gatsby. It is very easy to fall in love with the captivating image and aesthetic of the 20s: the fringe swinging back and forth, the loud music, the exaggerate make-up, the beaded dresses, the headbands, the fun, the unconditional sensation of freedom while dancing the night away, smoking and driving automobiles.
Whether taking a modern approach of the flapper dress or just reinterpreting the use of fringe, Nina Ricci, Bottega Veneta, Rodarte, Salvatore Ferragamo brought it back in the spotlight for their 2013 collections.
I was very happy to see Kerry Washington in this lovely Oscar de la Rentaspring 2013 dress. Apparently, she is quite fond of this style, as I immediately remembered that gorgeous Giles dress she wore at the London premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s new movie “Django Unchained”. Kerry opted for a simple look, replacing the bejeweled butterfly belt with a less heavy one. Freida Pinto and Halle Berry attended the awards also. See their looks below: (more…)
Kate Beckinsale wore a simple, yet very elegant, Gucci spring 2013 gown while Berenice Marlohe dazzled in a bold Monique Lhuillier see-thorugh dress. Vanessa Hudgens donned a Jenny Packham ensemble with a daring deep V neck. Jaime King opted for a sheer white Emilio Pucci dress.
Selena Gomez wore an Atelier Versace dress, while Jessica Alba opted for a sheer Louis Vuitton spring 2013 black and white look. Freida Pinto went with Antonio Berardi for this party and Sarah Hyland opted for a very girly outfit, a Pavoni dress.
Emma Roberts wore a Maria Lucia Hohan dress, Malin Ackerman opted for an Alberta Ferretti spring 2013 gown while Nina Dobrev chose one of my favorite dresses from the Oscar de la Renta spring 2013 collection. Kelly Osbourne wore Zac Posen.(pictures via zimbio.com)
You know it’s the awards season, when there is literally an event every day. People’s Choice Awards were followed by last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards where the red carpet appearances improved pleasantly from Wednesday’s show. Therefore, I enjoyed it more. Without a doubt, Emmy Rossum’s Carolina Herrera dark blue dress, Marion Cotillard’s Zuhair Murad floral ensemble and Jaime King’s Jason Wu black gown are my favorite outfits. I will add Emily Blunt’s look on my list as well, not particularly because of her Miu Miu dress, but because of her flawless retro hairstyle. What delighted me however was Marion’s choice to wear something else than her usual Dior dresses. Not that I mind them of crouse, but it’s nice to see something fresh in her wardrobe. (more…)
